Bo’a Vida’s philosophy is intertwined with a commitment to sustainable comfort, local community engagement, and the seamless integration of adventure, nature, and true island living.

Bo’a Vida’s philosophy centers around creating a small hideaway that provides a unique and immersive experience for adventure, surf, and nature enthusiasts.

Bo’a Vida goes beyond being a mere retreat, actively contributing to the local community. Over the years, we have worked together with the local school, giving English lessons and encouraging social activities. We encourage all our guests to bring English books for kids, which are donated to help grow the school’s library. Boa Vida also facilitates interactions with the school where guests can share life stories or personal experiences, with a particular focus on promoting the importance of education.

We have also been involved in cleaning efforts across different villages on the island, and in mediating and connecting local authorities with resorts and accommodations to improve waste management. In 2026, these efforts led to real progress: the government now collects waste directly, which is then taken away by the local waste bank (Bank Sampah).

Bo’a Vida’s latest six rooms were designed by architect Álvaro Carrillo, who has been recognized by the schools of architecture of Madrid and Málaga for his sustainable practices. Drawing on his expertise, he positioned the houses along the natural lines where there were no trees — precisely where the wind flows most freely — and left deliberate gaps around each structure to let that airflow circulate. Combined with high ceilings and traditional thatch roofs, this design keeps the rooms naturally cool almost all year round, with air conditioning only needed for around two months during the hottest season, purely for our guests’ comfort. We encourage our guests to use it sparingly, in keeping with Bo’a Vida’s commitment to sustainability. The resort is constructed from local materials by local craftsmen, and the incorporation of hydro-gardens reflects a further dedication to water conservation. Our commitment to sustainability continues, and we dream of returning to being 100% solar powered, as we were in Bo’a Vida’s earliest years.
